Professional Learning
The SELPA Administrators of California lead in the design of professional development for educators across California. In addition to the work of the SELPA System Improvement Leads and SELPA Content Leads, which you can learn more about at our Statewide System of Support page or the Compliance Monitoring page, our members play key roles in the coordination of multiple conferences each year. While there are too many to list, here are just a few examples:
Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) Conference
Held annually in Riverside, the ADR Conference has boasted more than 1,200 attendees and is entirely organized by the East Valley SELPA on behalf of the SELPA Administrators of California.
California Mental Health Advocates for Children and Youth (CMHACY) Conference
Held annually in Asilomar, the focus for this event is on the array of services and supports that can be provided for student mental health, and interagency collaboration is emphasized. Many SELPA Administrators hold volunteer positions within CMHACY and help to plan these events each year.
Every Child Counts Symposium by the Association of California School Administrators (ACSA)
Held annually in Palm Desert, ACSA's Every Child Counts Symposium boasts the participation of nearly 2,000 practitioners in student services and special education and includes presentations by practitioners, legal experts, and outside consultants. SELPA Administrators have traditionally held volunteer positions within ACSA that have required their leadership and active involvement in the planning of the conference.
